While growing up kids dream about being in the major leagues
and hitting that game winning home run to win the World Series
in spectacular fashion. Especially those of us have seen the
movie “The Natural,” when the star of the movie
hits a home run and hits the stadium lights causing them to
short which caused a fireworks show behind him as he rounded
the bases with thousands of fans cheering. But for Tony Martinez
of the Viejitos CC of the Silicon Valley, his game winning
home run came in a different form, the Chicano way. For Tony
didn’t actually hit one over the ballpark fence, he
purchased his beautiful 1940 Chevy Special Deluxe from a Cecil
Fielder, the former Detroit Tiger first baseman who made a
career of hitting souvenirs in baseball parks nation wide.
When you see a Viejitos plaque you know you’re vesting
your eyes on one of the cleanest bombas and Tony’s ’40
is no exception. Tony’s ’40 rides with a rebuilt
235 engine that sports a chrome valve cover and air cleaner.
To make sure his ride has that low look he took a drive down
to the gente at Drop Zone where they hooked up Tony with an
air bag suspension that lets him drop his bomba at the flick
of a switch. The interior was laced up as tight as the seams
of a baseball, it was stitched with the o.g. pattern in a
slate gray and with a beautiful wood grain dashboard which
complements the exquisite silver green paint that was sprayed
on the exterior of the bomba. We all know that the tires and
wheels make the ride, and that is why Tony hooked up Croaker
Classic wheels and laced it up with some gangster white walls
to keep that o.g. feel.
Tony has placed first and second at many shows and believes
that this ride was never tailored to any of those shows, for
this is Tony’s daily driver.
Tony would like to thank his family ad his fellow members
of Viejitos CC for their help and support. |
