Zoot Suit ‘48
Have you ever seen such a mas firme carucha that says “Pachuco?”
This 1948 Chevrolet two door “Aero Sedan” Fleetline
ranfla belongs to JR “Ray” Estrella from Fullerton,
CA who’s part of the Duke’s Car Club Mother Chapter.
And as you know, to be a Duke you gots to be on point and
as an ex Green Beret Special Forces Airborne Ranger, Ray purchased
the ranfla from fellow club member Oscar Ruelas and went to
work on making it the “Zoot Suit ’48.”
He sent the ranfla to Gage Body Shop where Manuel sprayed
it with a Blue Pearlescent undercoat with a Ford Explorer
Green overcoat and rebuilt the stock 216 motor. Manuel left
the ranfla purring and sparkling. It then began being modified
as the drums were swapped for disk brakes, a ’79 Chevelle
Rear-End installed with an open drive line and pinstriped
by “Jones” in Whittier, CA. Then Rob from Master
Custom Images in Placentia, CA Bagged the BOMB which left
it lifted front and back. And the Bumper Wrap Abound’s
were chromed at Nickel Chrome in Lynwood and all the stainless
steel polished at Christensons in the City of Vermon.
You can catch this Zoot Suiter rolling through the calles
on its way to El Pachuco Zoot Suits in Fullerton, CA with
the oldies bumping out of the Pioneer six speaker system.
If you get a chance to be on the outside looking in, you can
see the mint green Mohair interior that was stitched by jessie’s
Upholstery in Whittier, CA.
So after many dad presidents, and tow years of Ray’s
relentless efforts to make this the baddest Pachuco has payed
off, not only at numerous car shows but also as being a true
Streetlowrider. Not to mention both hard bodies, the ’48
and Vivian make a firme couple.
Ray would like to thank his club member Oscar Ruelas and his
wife Sylvia. Ray’s wife Phyllis, son Ray Jr. for their
support in helping him in his efforts. So stay low…
