1961 Impala
Owner Phillip Garcia by Eddie Camacho
Ask any streetlowrider out there and they will let you know
that one of the most stressful things, but also one of the
most fulfilling in building a ride is trying to get your hands
on those vintage parts or those hard to find accessories.
That’s when its time to start calling up all your connections,
friends, friends of friends, all the people you’ve met
at car shows, to surfing the internet, because we all know
that you have to find the best deal because these parts don’t
come cheap.
Phillip Garica of Lo Lystics CC did just that, he called up
all of is connections after he purchased a ’61 Impala
from his good friend Mando, the owner of Hi-Low Hydraulics.
You see Phillip knew what he was getting into when he bought
the six one, it had no doors, dash, or even seats. So you
can see this car was a astraight bucket that needed lots of
loving.
First things first, Phillip knew he had to get the ride running
first, so he slapped in a rebuilt 383 stroker, that allows
him and his lady to cruise to all the local shows. Then as
soon as they straightened out the body it was given to Tim
Martinez who sprayed the ride a beautiful brandywine with
red flakes which gives the impala its character. Then Georgie
“O” sprayed a breath taking moral of Phillip’s
caddy in front of his soil, Sac Town and a picture of Phillip
and his lovely wife Thomasa of when they first met. While
the ride was getting painted, Hi-Low was giving the undercarriage
the chrome treatment while the bumpers and molding were given
to Ken’s Buff-N-Plate were they blinged out. Phillip’s
ride known as “Filthy 1.” Next was getting the
six I lifted where Phillip took it to his people at Hi-Lo,
and you know how they do it! The set us was so unique no one
can get a look at it until he get a patent on it, can’t
have no stilling your ideas, que no. The n his good friend
Dan and Paco Moreno stitched up a custom interior that separates
this Impala from all the rest. Like Phillip says, “Dan
has completed many cars that always take first place for his
work.” Speaking about connections, Phillip’s homie
Omar hooked him up with some chrome spoke Zenith wire wheels
with engraved gold plated knock offs and hubs. Two and a half
years later you have one of the cleanest ‘61’s
in northern Cali, when asked how much money was spent Phillip
answered, “a lot, but there’s no limit to lowriding
on Hi-Low.”
Phillip would like to send a special thanks to: “Mando
for giving me the first shot at the car. Dave for telling
me about the car right away and having Mando hold it for me.
Kiki and Gato for helping and supporting in their little way.
Dan for the unique interior design. Tim for another bad creation
with this paint and red flackes. Omar for the engraved Zeniths
and my wife for everything, too much to list for her roll
play (including modeling for this layout), and Dave Marquez
for managing the car and being a major factor in the creative
process of it. |
