’48 Chevy Fleetline
If you have ever cruised the calles of East Salinas on a Sunday
afternoon you might have caught a glimpse of Robert Solis
Jr’s beautiful ’48 Chevy Fleetline. This story
begins early as Robert grew up with a family con nuestro estillo
of streetlowriding. For instance his Tio Manuel Urzua Jr.
was one of the co-founders of New Arrivals CC in 1971, the
club Robert now represents. Robert first purchased the car
in 1990 out in Santa Cruz for only $3,000. Robert’s
first natural instinct was then to get the car running, so
he took it to Jesse’s Body Shop where they slapped in
a big block 350, a four barrel carburetor, and 400 turbo tranny.
Then it was time to straighten out the body, which took a
couple of months to get those curves just right. Juan Lopez
then got his hands on the bomb as he sprayed a gold base,
then he went with a Brandywine and a couple coat of clear.
Next Robert’s homie John Ernie Santiago wet sanded and
buffed out the bomb, which makes onlookers have to wear a
pair of shades to envy this ride. Robert’s good friend
Richard from Richard’s Hydraulics then hooked up the
bomba with a front, back, and side to side setup that pancakes
Robert’s ride down to the ground. Now that the bomba
looked good it was now time to make it sound even better as
Robert then cruised down to Salinas Auto Stereo. The crew
at Salinas Auto Stereo installed a Sony head unit, kicker
speakers all around, and a 12” deep base. Now it was
the interiors turn as Howard’s Upholstery of Salinas
stitched up the original upholstery in burgundy. All that
was left now was lacing up the bomba, and that’s when
Robert decided to go with a set of Sinister wire wheels.
Robert would like to give a special thanks to his family and
friends. Robert is also thankful for growing up around classic
bombas, cruising up and down King and Story in San Jose, and
visiting his Tio Manuel Urzua Jr. (aka Super), may he rest
in peace. Robert would like to dedicate his bomba to the man
that made this all happen. “From the family, we all
miss you, in our hearts, and on the boulevard. Con mucho respesto,”
tu sabrino, Bobby. |
