Born and raised in Southtown San Diego, this 25 year old Leo
started his project in the summer of 97. Not long after buying
his 81 Buick he quickly went to work on it. Throwing away
all old chromes and replacing them with new ones. While the
new chromes had been ordered the car was then moved to Mr.
Sal Manzano’s Custom Auto Body. A well respected candy
man. Leo didn’t want just anybody to shoot a candy (it
had to be Sal). Sweepstakes takers like crystal blue, and
three time truck of the year raw deal, and wrapped with envy
have also been painted by Sal. Leo said one thing, “I
want people to see my flake from a mile away.” And that’s
all Sal neeed to know. Two months and about a thousand patterns
latter. Tape roll after tape roll over a resin flake base
a turquoise candy was then sprayed and laid…
While putting the new chromes back on the stock interior was
being torn out. Lil Cheese from Majestics SD a bad ass tapisedo
who has also worked on front cover cars. He suggested a ful
custom interior. Turquoise biscuits and silver piping was
the combo. When the plush interior was almost done Cheese
and leo came up with the same idea at the same time. The USO
plaque for a back seat, and right then and there at 3 in the
morning they were both cutting up a USO pattern for the back
seat. Who knew that the back seat would lead Leo to a number
of best interior trophies.
Big Mike from bottoms up hydraulics who has been serving San
Diego for years installed a four pump hi lo set up. Complete
with a dancing ten switch panel. Front back side to side and
all the s#%t!!!
The tight mural on the trunk was sprayed in Long Beach by
young legend Jose Mercado one of the lowrider’s best
muralist. Another well known person in this sick underworld
of lowridin’. The mural tells a short story about Leo
back in the day. Jose got down with matching the tones of
blue on the girls with the paint of the car. “Coming
soon more story telling mural on the belly of this Buick,”
says Jose.
A full Chrome and gold suspension is also shown when Leo cruises
topped off. Leo also says he has a freshly dipped chrome frame
sitting in is garage, but won’t put it on until the
competition demands it.
Sometimes it’s a little hard to hear the police siren
when he’s bumping his all Alpine set up installed by
club member Corey. Alpine deck, two Alpine amps pushing Alpine
mids and tweeters and two ten inch JLs.
This project was built when Leo used to design Rollin Hard
T-Shirts for a living. He’s now doing his own thing
and gets paid three times as much and gets the credit he deserves
for his work, and not other people claiming to work for Rollin
